Is Mocking Kellyanne Conway By Jimmy Kimmel And Stephen Colbert Hurting Investigation?

White House counselor Kellyanne Conway appeared on various morning talk shows to discuss the changing story of Donald Trump Jr.’s meeting at Trump Tower in June 2016. The president’s son initially said he met to discuss a law banning U.S. citizens from adopting Russian children, only later admitting that part of the conversation was about former 2016 Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton.

Conway backed Trump Jr.’s latest account of the meeting, in which he said he attended a meeting set up by a contact from the Miss Universe pageant because he was promised damaging information about Hillary Clinton.

Following that morning roundup, comedians Jimmy Kimmel and Stephen Colbert had some fun at Conway’s expense. Both late-night personalities set up faux chats with President Doanld Trump’s advisor in mocking her response to the latest controversy surrounding Trump Jr.

Kimmel dubbed Conway “the Kraken” before dishing it out with a Conway puppet on Jimmy Kimmel Live. “First of all, define meeting. When you say ‘meeting,’ what are you talking about?” the Conway puppet said. The interview never truly got past this line of discussion. “A meeting is when people gather and talk … I don’t know, it’s a meeting,” Kimmel exclaimed.

The New York Times, too, reported on emails allegedly confirming the purpose was to gain damaging information on Clinton.

Colbert said he found people were still talking about the allegations that the president’s campaign colluded with Russia during the 2016 presidential election. However, Colbert took a different approach to his mock interview by splicing in footage from Conway’s recent chat with CNN’s Chris Cuomo. He, too, had difficulty wrapping his head around her line of reasoning.

Here are some reactions on social media to Conway’s morning talk show response.

There is nothing wrong with a funny joke especially concerning the confusing elements of the Russian investigation. But, is there a point where certain commentary is only helping drive the passionate base of Trump?

What did you think of the comedians’ mocking interviews of Conway? Do you agree with this type of political humor or do you feel like it complicates things? Let us know in the comments section.
